Dear friend, my name is Guenny K. Pires, I’m a film director and I have seventeen years of progressive experience planning, shooting, directing, producing and editing compelling stories. I was born and raised in Mira-Mira, a humble African village with less than ten houses. As many children I grow up on back of my mother Marina Pires, who was a street seller of fruits and vegetable.
I believe that we all deserve an opportunity to do something that we really love! To me make films is my first passion. It’s in my heart and soul. That is why in 2005 I founded Txan Film – a Cape Verdean-American four-members production company based in Los Angeles, California with the development and exposure of Cape Verdean and the rest of the African Portuguese speaking-countries culture as the core goal. Our mission is to tell stories that may not otherwise be heard and to give a voice to those who do not have access to mass media.
We are a group of dedicated indie filmmakers that produce films about unsung heroes, people who make a difference in the lives of people around the world.

THE HEART OF AMILCAR CABRAL is planned to be released summer 2016.
It’s an epic 58-minute poignant docudrama chronicling the poignant and profound vision of Amilcar Cabral, a statesman who called for the liberation of the African continent and freedom from the tyranny of the Colonial Empires.
Amilcar Cabral’s legacy resulted in the birth of three countries, Angola, Cape Verde and Guine Bissau as independent African nations.
Cabral has never been documented in such detail and no one has ever brought his personal life to the public though the film medium. WE DO!

The movie features interviews of veterans and archival film clips from international authorities and activists such as Noam Chomsky, Pedro Pires, Danny Glover, Jerry Lange, Harry Belafonte, Tim Reid, Rigoberto Lopez, Peter Mendy, Richard Lobbon, Tersa Lima, Maria Eugénia Neto, Alda do Espírito Santo, Antonio Correia e Silva, Manuel Brito Semedo, Gamal Mascarenhas Vasco Pires, his widow Ana Maria Cabral and his daughter Iva Cabral.
It has taken fourteen years of documenting this work traveling internationally!

The Heart of Amilcar Cabral has been a complete labor of love for everyone involved in the project. O CORAÇÃO DE AMÍLCAR CABRAL é um filme épico de 58 minutos, um docudrama que explora o fim da ocupação colonial portuguesa na Guiné-Bissau e Cabo Verde, dois países da costa ocidental de África.
As imagens mostram a beleza desses países hoje em dia. O realizador Guenny Pires conta a história da luta com base em entrevistas de veteranos e excertos de filmes de arquivo de autoridades internacionais e ativistas – Noam Chomsky, Peter Mendy, Manthia Diawarra, Danny Glover, Jerry Lange, Harry Belafonte, Tim Reid, Rigoberto Lopez, Peter Mendy, Richard Lobbon, Tersa Lima, Maria Eugénia Neto, Alda do Espírito Santos, Antonio Correia e Silva, Iva Cabral, Manuel Brito Semedo, Gamal Mascarenhas, Vasco Pires, Sallath Mateus, Michael Lange, Moacyr Rodrigues, Rui Machado, Pedro Pires, a filha Iva Cabral e a viúva de Amilcar Cabral, Ana Maria Cabral.
A intriga internacional da Guerra Fria levou ao fim trágico do líder da luta, Amílcar Cabral, escritor, poeta e líder nacionalista anti-colonial, que conduziu o movimento de libertação que finalmente derrotou os portugueses a 25 de Abril de 1974. No entanto, a 20 de Janeiro de 1973, a poucos meses de distância da independência da Guiné-Bissau, assassinos a soldo dos portugueses mataram Amílcar Cabral na Guiné-Conacri.

O docudrama inclui paisagens vivas da beleza de Cabo Verde, Guiné-Bissau e Angola e testemunhos de pessoas que contam como a sua experiênca de visionar O Coração de Amílcar Cabral mudou, para melhor, a paisagem das liberdades. O contributo de Cabral não foi só para libertar Cabo Verde e a Guiné-Bissau, mas também os restantes países de língua oficial portuguesa e todo o continente africano, incluindo Gana e a África do Sul.
Ele era amigo de Agostinho Neto, Kwame Nkrumah e Thomas Sankara. Também se encontrou muitas vezes com Malcolm X. E era muito amigo de Nelson Mandela e de outros líderes mundiais da paz. Encontrou-se muitas vezes com Fidel Castro e o Che Guevara. Estava focado em falar sobre a liberdade e os direitos humanos e contra a dominação colonial da África.
O CORAÇÃO DE AMÍLCAR CABRAL evidencia visualmente Cabral, a pedagogia da luta de libertação e a sua influência na FRETILIN em 1975-1978. Vestígios raízes sobre Cabral, luta para libertar a África e mostra sua vida na Guiné, Cabo Verde, Portugal, Angola e as suas viagens pelo mundo, incluindo o seu último discurso na Organização das Nações Unidas em 1972.
O CORAÇÃO DE AMÍLCAR CABRAL vai tocar a vida de jovens e adultos, e enfatizar o poder de dar aos outros para fazer a diferença.

« Eu nunca imaginei que um dia, na minha carreira cinematográfica, teria a oportunidade de trabalhar com um grupo de pessoas para quem nutro a mais alta estima. A pós-produção é muito onerosa e sem ela não há filme. Enquanto cineasta, a minha missão é contar histórias que educam o público, explorando a linguagem audiovisual e do cinema como o principal compromisso de comunicar com o outro. Para chegar a esta fase da produção fui obrigado a retirar da minha reserva pessoal uma alta quantia sem a qual seria impossível entrar no estúdio para terminar esta produção. Confesso que este é o melhor filme que realizei até hoje, estou convicto de que todos querem ver O Coração de Amílcar Cabral. Imagine o que são dez anos de trabalho a investigar e filmar em diversas partes do mundo. Tive momentos de muita imaginação ao conseguir gravar imagens únicas e mágicas que agora chegou a hora de partilhar consigo.
